Director of Golf:

Monthly Report

April 2014 was by far one the busiest months of golf, social events and activities we've had for a long time. The very busy week of Easter started with the ladies' AGM, when Rie Cherubini passed her duty of Lady Captain to Adrienne Buth in great style with a partial striptease for the 40 ladies present, and myself (someone had to represent the company). Adrienne Buth went on to do her drive-in which went exceptionally well.

Three days later, it was time for the Golf AGM, which had one of the best attendance for many years, with over 120 members present where Graeme Thomson introduced the new Pinheiros Altos Captain David Pirret. One of the highlights of the AGM was the approval of the new structure and Golf Club rules that are now in operation.

The creation of the sub-committees (greens, house, social, competitions/handicap and disciplinary) should help the communication between members and the company. I would like to ask all members to use the channels of the committee and its sub-committees to give their suggestions regarding what can be improved. This is so these matters can be discussed by the committee and dealt with when possible.

Ladies Section

Adrienne Buth

I was told that the ladies section is well organised, and it's true. In April 2014, we had to confront all kind of weather conditions and the 5 Wednesdays were organised by three different Lady Captains. There were two committee meetings and the ladies AGM, which were both busy, because many members chose to spend their Easter holidays in the Algarve.

April's Ladies Medal literally fell in the water. It was a pity because we had never seen so many ladies with a higher handicap on the signup sheet. The competition was cancelled, but Zoë Pirret and Helen Mills decided to play their final match for the Wainwright trophy. Rie Cherubini accompanied them as referee. I heard that a ball had disappeared in the bunker of the 1st of Corks, which was full of water. Luckily, they managed to fish it out and find some sand that wasn't closer to the hole. Well done to Helen, because your name will be on the trophy; Congratulations!
